A set of reliable and predictable socioeconomic factors as proxies for the demand for air travvel have been identified, and the socioeconomic factors as demand variables along with the transport supply variables have been successfully used to develop a demand model for air travel. The travel time ratio between rail and air has been found to be a significant factor affecting the demand for air travel, and indicates the existence of cross elasticity of demand between the two modes in the study links. These and other study findings are discussed.
