METHOD FOR CALCULATING THE TRANSITORY HEAT FIELD DURING RAIL SURFACE AND CORE HARDENING

The authors explain the main requirements for establishing a method for calculating the heat field during rail surface and core hardening. The results of these calculations are compared against experimental rail cooling graphs of core hardening at three characteristics points in the rail section. The comparison shows that the calculations and experimental results tally. This calculation method can be used to determine the structure and hardness of rail sections which have been cooled by different methods and hardening mediums for which the heat transfer coefficient is known.
