AVIATION AND TOURISM: THE TRAVELING PUBLIC. KEYNOTE ADDRESS, SYMPOSIUM: AIRLINES AND THE FUTURE OF AVIATION, WASHINGTON, D.C., MAY 28-29, 1992

This Keynote Address discusses the vital relationship between aviation and tourism and its implications for the traveling public. In addressing this topic, the author touches upon the historical relationship between the two and the key issues which are important to the future of tourism and aviation. The key issues include (1) the strategic importance of tourism to the national economy and in international trade, (2) the contribution of aviation technology to long-haul travel, and (3) the impact of civil aviation policies on travel and public concerns about air service (congestion, safety, service in general, and air travel taxation).
