POTHOLE CONTRACTING PAYS OFF FOR NEW MEXICO CITY
Rio Rancho, New Mexico is using a pothole repair system which has resulted in no repeated pothole failures on the city's streets. A self-contained pothole repair machine is used to perform permanent, seamless repair of potholes, cracks, utility cuts, sunken areas, alligatored, and generally deteriorated areas. The details are described of the 'Puff' machine which has a mechanical arm with a 10-ft swing radius which carries a track of oil spray head, high velocity blower/vacuum propane torch and jack hammer/tamper foot. Details of the repair process are also described. Rio Rancho's maintenance program involves subcontracting pothole maintenance, the flexibility and benefits of which are noted.
