THE CONNECTICUT PHOTOLOG LASER VIDEODISC-BASED PAVEMENT RATING SYSTEM

The paper describes the photolog laser vieodisc (PLV)-based pavement rating system which combines an interactive image retrieval system for photolog images with an objective pavement distress scoring process. This combination allows safe, objective, and repeatable network-level pavement distress surveys to be conducted in an office environment. The Connecticut Department of Transportation has successfully used this system to perform network-=level pavement conditon surveys of state-maintained roadways since 1989. When all applications for the PLV system are considered, the system has proven cost-effective for Connecticut.
