MODEL UNCERTAINTY REPRESENTATION IN GEOTECHNICAL RELIABILITY ANALYSES

The study shows how the stochastic representation of model uncertainty associated with a geotechnical analysis model can be established. The distribution parameters for the model uncertainty factor can be calibrated from sets of coherent measurement and prediction values of quantities that can be predicted by means of a particular computational or mechanical model. For reference, the prediction of axial pile capacities by means of one of several available capacity prediction models is taken as an example. Such a model is relevant for use in, for example, a reliability analysis for determination of the probability of pull-out for tension pile.
