AMERICAN RESEARCH IN INTELLIGENT VEHICLE-HIGHWAY SYSTEMS - AN OVERVIEW
American research in intelligent vehicle-highway systems (IVHS) is largely driven by the needs for IVHS to enhance mobility and safety of automobile travel. With a basic strength in modular technologies relevant to IVHS, the United States has put research emphasis on system integration, including the driver in the loop. Interdisciplinary research is being conducted, combining the purely technical with the human-social elements. Industry, government, and university are joining forces in a number of research consortia. International cooperation might begin in basic research.
