STREET REHABILITATION PROGRAM USES HYDRATED LIME FOR STABILIZATION

Article describing a street rehabilitation program in Waco, Texas utilizing hydrated lime. By the addition of lime, a high quality base material can be produced that should have a service life of 30 years at least. The stabilization action is two-fold -- first, the lime reacts with the existing clay during mixing to reduce the plasticity index and volume change, and second, after compaction, to cement the clay-gravel into a strong and stable base course.
