This is the first issue in the Bulletin series Research in Communication Economics in Australia, published by the Bureau of Transport and Communications Economics. The Bulletin is essentially a register of current and recent research with a primary focus on economic issues related to communication services in Australia and is intended as an aid to researchers and others interested in research findings. To identify and collect the information for the register, we contacted 100 organisations, including universities, industry research groups and individuals known to be involved, or to have an interest, in this area of research. Some 40 organisations or individuals responded indicating an interest in the register. Not all respondents, however, were involved in research. Although, we have attempted to identify all current research, we make no claims about the comprehensiveness of the register. Selection of entries for inclusion in the register was guided by our assessment as to whether a return was primarily concerned with economic issues or aspects of communication services. Only those returns which were clearly non-economic in nature were excluded. If there was a doubt about the nature of a study, we adopted the policy of erring on the side of inclusion. Hence, some of the entries may appear to be only marginally related to the objective of the register. (TRRL)
