TECHNIQUES AND FACILITIES FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF QUIETER VEHICLES

Techniques available for the development of quieter vehicles involve increasingly sophisticated, computer-based analysis methods. To make full use of these techniques, more accurate and repeatable measurement procedures are required. A range of acoustic and other facilities is needed to carry out this work. Engineering consultancies support manufacturers by providing problem-solving and development expertise together with such a range of facilities. This article reviews some of the techniques currently used and the facilities required by manufacturers and engineering consultancies. (Author/TRRL)
