ROAD HAUNCHES: A GUIDE TO MAINTENANCE PRACTICE

Haunching or edge of carriageway strengthening has become an increasingly important highway maintenance technique in the UK. This report outlines the extent of the problem, obtained from results of questionnaire and interview surveys from 33 highway authorities and summarises the responses from interviews with 29 authorities and reviews all aspects of present maintenance practice for haunching. It then provides guidance on methods of investigating haunch defects, structural design and practicalities of carrying out haunch repairs. In an extensive series of appendices, details are given of specifications of and test methods for materials for haunching together with information on compaction plant. (TRRL)
