A TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM ADAPTED TO THE ENVIRONMENT

ETT MILOENAPASSAT TRANSPORTSYSTEM

This report is published separately in Swedish and English. This study is an analysis of the possibilities of developing a transportation system adapted to the environment within a twenty-five year perspective. Exhaust emissions presented for the years up to the year 2015 are based on estimates of traffic growth and emission levels which constitute a number of different scenarios. Traffic forecast were made for different calculation alternatives. Using varying assumptions regarding economic growth, the charges imposed and the public transport system, future specific emissions from road traffic were estimated as were the total emissions involved in the alternatives studied. One main result is that a technology already exists, or could within the next few years be developed, with the help of which very substantial limitations in the emissions of hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides could be achieved. A prerequisite for more far-reaching reductions in carbon developed and/or that transport patterns change in the direction of decreased mobility. (Author/TRRL)
