TWO-DIMENSIONAL LEACHATE ESTIMATION THROUGH LANDFILLS
Presented here is the basic process of interest in leachate flow through landfills, and the formulation of a leachate flow model that includes computation for surface runoff, evapotranspiration, and infiltration at the upper boundary of the landfill. The paper discusses the model application to Fresh Kills Landfill section 6/7 in Staten Island, New York. In the model described, an accurate and realistic approach for computing the runoff is considered by numerically solving the kinematic wave equation, which takes into account the effect of slope along the landfill surface. The details of the study and the findings are described.
