TELETRANSPORTATION: HOW ONE PHONE SYSTEM PRACTICES WHAT IT MARKETS

The use is described of network facilities for intramanagement communications and the fast transmission of hard data. Conference sets with an individual Microphone for each participant and a loudspeaker receiver are used in locations where several people attend meetings, while speaker-phones can handle the conference call for three or four participants. Unit Telephone System's electronic communication center has a United Telecom TWX machine connected through Western Union to 19 other TWXs within the System. A total of 45 fascimile units make up a nationwide, and 73 Dataphones can tap into United Computing System's computers. It is shown how news releases especially those containing financial information and which require simultaneous distribution, are transmitted nationwide. It is also shown how transporting data, manipulating it and controlling it, and having it available when needed makes the job of ordering warehousing and shipping easier and more economical.
