LOAD DISTRIBUTION IN CONCRETE BRIDGE DECKS

Three precast prestressed concrete pseudo-slabs, representing quarter scale prototype bridge decks in the span range 25 to 30 M, were subjected to hb abnormal loading at mid span both in a central position and eccentric to the longitudinal direction. There were also static loadings up to design loading, cyclic tests at and above working load, with a final test to collapse. A reinforced concrete slab deck with 14 rectangular voids was also built to quarter scale and subjected to a similar loading procedure. A 1:30 scale asbestos-cement beam and slab bridge model was built and local bending stresses were investigated by means of A single concentrated load at various positions on the bridge. In the tests on the quarter scale slabs, maximum longitudinal stresses were adequately predicted by two-dimensional orthotropic plate analysis, and transverse stresses were adequately predicted by three-dimensional strip analysis.
