MICROSURFACING TREATMENT USED FOR OHIO'S I-70

Microsurfacing was used in a 10.2-mile application through the heart of Columbus, Ohio. Microsurfacing is a polymer-modified quick traffic slurry seal system with a quick cure time, which can be placed in much greater thickness than is possible for conventional slurry seal. This allows its use as an alternative to hot mix asphalt for the filling of ruts and for some other corrective maintenance applications. It was necessary to perform the installation at night because the heavy trafic volume, a daily average count of 130,000 vehicles on the 6- to 8-lane freeway. Details of the installation are briefly described.
