A LOOK AT WHAT SOME STATES ARE DOING. TEXAS CREATES ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY FOR LANDSCAPING PROGRAM

Texas, which created the Adopt-a-Highway program, is now creating the Adopt-a-Highway for Landscaping program. Volunteer groups with adopted sections of Texas roadside can landscape and further beautify their litter-free land according to their ideas. Under this program, groups purchase, plant and maintain for 2 years, native and naturalized trees, shrubs and wildflowers, in addition to tending to their litter duties. The Department of Highways and Public Transportation will provide the funds, labor and equipment needed to erect and maintain signs announcing the groups' participation in the program.
