A NOTE ON BANKRUPTCY IN ROAD HAULAGE

The article examines the position of the small operator in the road haulage industry since its development in 1920 and attempts to analyse the reasons for bankruptcy among operators of this size. Although licensing was originally introduced in 1933 to limit those entering the industry to those with sufficient resources in order to reduce the bankruptcy rate, it is shown that the bankruptcy rate among other classes of small trader was higher than that in the road haulage industry. /TRRL/
