BEHAVIOR OF SINGLE-ANGLE-COMPRESSION MEMBERS

This is a report and discussion of tests conducted on nonslender single-angle-compression members that were tested to failure as part of a 3-dimensional truss. The paper reviews the work by others and describes the experimental program, including the test specimens, test apparatus, instrumentation, and test procedure. Methods of reduction of the test data, and the calculation of the member forces from the strain readings are also given. The method of calculating the member forces is based on numerical integration of the stresses calculated from the measured strains over the angle cross-sectional area. The test results show that the current design methods for nonslender single angle members in the United Sates are not adequate.
