EXECUTIVE SUMMARY OF INFORMATION COMPILED FROM INVESTIGATIONS AND DEMONSTRATION PROJECTS PERTAINING TO THE USE OF GROUND TIRE RUBBER IN HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION. TECHNICAL REPORT
The purpose of this Executive Summary is to provide a concise overview of all Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and University of Florida activities pertaining to the development of the use of ground tire rubber in asphalt-rubber binders for specific asphalt concrete mixtures and other highway construction applications and to document the steps taken by the FDOT to facilitate the use and quality control of this material. The report is organized as follows: Introduction; Documentation of Information and Demonstration Projects; Type and Amount of GTR in Friction Course Mixtures; Blending Requirements; Effects on Construction and Pavement Performance; Estimated Ground Tire Rubber Usage and Cost in Highway Applications; Developmental Specifications for Asphalt-Rubber Highway Construction Applications; and Other Methods for Used Tire Recycling.
