This paper gives a brief history of how a Geographic Information System was developed by the Engineering and Planning departments at the City of Saskatoon. It describes how GIS is currently being used to assist the Transportation Section of the Engineering Department, and it provides some insight into possible future applications for GIS in municipal traffic engineering.
