The Strategic Highway Research Program's 'Distress Identification Manual for the Long-Term Pavement Performance Studies' enables agencies to assess the type and severity of pavement distress accurately and uniformly. This manual provides a method for obtaining consistent, repeatable, and quantifiable information. The manual is a basic tool that highway agencies can adapt easily for use with state-of-art pavement management systems. Users of the Manual will be able to make direct use of the performance relationships being developed through SHRP's Long-Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) program. It can also be adapted easily for use with automated pavement distress identification equipment. The Manual covers 3 basic types of pavement: asphalt concrete surfaced; jointed concrete; and continuously reinforced concrete.
