NOISE EMISSION OF SNOWMOBILES

In the project noise emitted by snowmobiles which are available on the Swedish market has been studies. Altogether, 26 snowmobiles and 2 four wheeled motorcycles from 5 different dealers were tested. The measurements and evaluations were made according to the American standard SAE J192. On 19 of the vehicles the measurements were also made according to the Swedish standard SS 02 51 31. Most snowmobiles in Sweden are imported from USA and Canada. USA is also the only country which has a special method for the measurement of noise emission from snowmobiles. The purpose of the project was to make a noise survey of new snowmobiles in Sweden measured according to the American standard SAE J192. The Swedish Traffic Road Safety Office TSVis planning to convert to the American Standard in the future. The results of the investigation will be used to determine a relevant noise emission limit for Sweden.
