PARKING POLICY FOR SUBURBAN LOCAL GOVERNMENT. ADELAIDE CITY; 2ND AUSTRALIAN PARKING CONVENTION, SEPTEMBER 30 - OCTOBER 4, 1990, ADELAIDE FESTIVAL CENTRE, SOUTH AUSTRALIA; PROVIDING PARKING FOR THE PEOPLE

Many inner and middle ring municipalities have concerns for the viability of their business and industrial areas, particularly related to a lack of adequate car parking. This paper outlines a method to analyse the basis for provision of car parking, and identifies and assesses alternative means of physically and financially providing car parking. The methodology, based on a recent study in the Municipality of Marrickville, Sydney, uses a computerised land use-parking inventory to rank areas according to parking need, identify sites and assess alternative means of obtaining funding for development of identified sites.
