SPECIFICATION FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF ASPHALT ROADS. CONSTRUCTIONAL MEASURES. THE RE-USE OF ASPHALT. EDITION 1985

MERKBLATT FUER DIE ERHALTUNG VON ASPHALTSTRASSEN. TEIL: BAULICHE MASSNAHMEN. WIEDERVERWENDUNG VON ASPHALT. AUSGABE 1985

This specification describes the constructional measures used for maintaining the value of material assets and ensuring road safety. Depending on the road's condition, construction measures are described which enable the road to be renovated to the required standard. 11 construction principles are stated. The construction methods specified are: (1) re-use without preparation; (2) re-use with additional construction materials; (3) re-use for the production of apshalt, including re-use in batch mixing plants and in continuous mixing plants. The following additional procedure details must be considered: (1) use without preparation; (2) use with additional construction materials; (3) use in hot mixing plants. Ground or crushed asphalt, which has to be used for the production of coated materials, must be examined in enough samples. The following tests must be carried out: (1) grain composition of the minerals; (2) binder content; (3) ring and ball softening point; (4) a suitability test to determine the effects of these characteristic values on the properties of the resulting coated material. Depending on the uniformity of the asphalt to be added, it may be advisable to increase the number of independent monitoring tests performed on the resulting coated material.
