A COMPUTER PROGRAM FOR THEORETICAL CALCULATION OF SEAKEEPING QUALITY OF SHIPS (PART 2--SYSTEM OF COMPUTER PROGRAMS AND EXAMPLES OF COMPUTED RESULTS ON SHIP MOTIONS)

In continuation of the previous paper, Part 1, which describes the method of theoretical calculations, based on so-called New Strip Method (N.S.M.) used for the computer program, this paper explains the details of the program and presents some examples of the computed results. With an aim to confirm the computer program for the practical use, the results computed by the program are compared with the results obtained by the model experiments and also with the results computed by so-called Ordinary Strip Method (O.S.M.) on a single-screw container carrier. The computed results have shown to be in a good agreement with both the results obtained by the model experiments and the results computed by O.S.M. Furthermore, the computed examples are shown on a high-speed triple-screw container carrier and a 270,000 DWT tanker and the program has confirmed to be useful for practical design. In this paper, the examples are limited to ship motions, corresponding absolute accelerations, relative motions between waves and hull and statistical predictions for short and long terms on these items. Regarding the other items, such as fluctuating pressures on hull surface, shearing forces, bending moments, torsional moments, etc., the computed examples will be presented in the Part 3.
