MANAGING SAFETY IN THE PORT TRANSPORT INDUSTRY

Attempts to isolate and describe the fundamental considerations to be borne in mind by any port transport organization which wishes to devise an effective safety management policy. After the importance of safety to a cargo handling concern has been considered the paper goes on to describe a simple conceptual model which may be helpful in ensuring an effective approach to safety. It concludes by outlining four basic principles of good safety management.
