THE INTER-RELATION OF QUALITY ASSURANCE AND QUALITY CONTROL IN FABRICATION SPECIFICATIONS . RATIONAL FABRICATION SPECIFICATIONS FOR STEEL STRUCTURES. PAPERS PRESENTED AT A SEMINAR HELD IN LONDON, JULY 13, 1988

This paper reviews the quality control inspection for structural steelwork fabrication and discusses the features necessary in an inspection system covering a range of different design categories. A means is described to allow reduced sampling frequencies to be derived based on BS 6001 and the application of these to either basic design categories or to a particular design category. The level of quality control inspection and test is based not only on the design criteria of the individual structural components but also on the quality assurance elements operated by the supplier. A model for selection of inspection criteria related to quality assurance parameters is also presented. (TRRL)
