MEMORY IN GRANULAR MATERIALS. DE MELLO VOLUME; A TRIBUTE TO PROFESSOR DR. VICTOR F. B. DE MELLO IN HONOR OF HIS CONTRIBUTION TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING IN LATIN AMERICA

The tangent planes of adjacent grains in a granular medium are determined by unit fabric vectors which represent a marked and independent characteristic of every granular medium. If the granular medium is loaded by external forces the fabric vectors move and incline to the direction of the resultant force. The results of sums of fabric vectors describe the degree of shear mobilisation and represent a significant characteristic of stress history. For the covering abstract of this book see IRRD 836508.
