In this paper, the author reviews developments in geotechnical engineering in Southeast Asia. The review covers work on sedimentary and residual soils, land reclamations, soft ground engineering, slope stability, and landslides in the region. Particular attention is paid to Malaysian highways and the cross-island highway in Taiwan. Information is included on terrain evaluation and land use mapping.
