GEOTEXTILE TIES TO IMPROVE UPLIFT RESISTANCE OF ANCHORS. REINFORCED SOIL AND GEOTEXTILES, PROCEEDINGS OF THE GEOTEXTILES CONFERENCE HELD AT THE INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, BOMBAY, INDIA, DECEMBER 8-9, 1988

The paper presents information on laboratory investigations of a new use of geotextiles as ties to improve uplift resistance of anchor piles. Polypropylene strips were used as ties to concrete anchor piles. Details of pull-out tests on large size model anchors of cylindrical and belled shapes, and the results of the tests are reported to demonstrate the soundness of the new application. Cylindrical anchors were embedded in a uniform loose sand and belled anchors were embedded in a poorly graded medium dense sand. Embedment depth of anchor piles and number of layers of ties were varied. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 836241. (Author/TRRL)
