PAVEMENT STRAIN VERSUS BACKCALCULATED DATA . THIRD INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON BEARING CAPACITY OF ROADS AND AIRFIELDS. PROCEEDINGS, NORWEGIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, TRONDHEIM, NORWAY, JULY 3-5 1990. VOLUMES 1-2

Much effort has been made in verifying the backcalculated moduli based on deflections from non-destructive testing. However, the actual pavement strain is of more interest to the pavement design engineer. The Road and Traffic Laboratory in Finland does have a working facility capable of recording the asphalt concrete strain. The present paper presents a comparison between the recorded strain at this facility and the strain obtained from backcalulations based on data from a falling weight deflectometer. The agreement between the two methods is very good, even if the backcalculated moduli do show some discrepancy. (Author/TRRL)
