TESTS ON HALF SCALE BRIDGES . GROUND ENGINEERING AND BRIDGE RESEARCH. PAPERS PRESENTED AT STRUCTURES 90, TRANSPORT AND ROAD RESEARCH LABORATORY, CROWTHORNE, 25-26 APRIL, 1990

In this article, the testing of two large scale models of bridges at TRRL is described. The first consisted of eight prestressed, precast beams with an insitu concrete deck slab, and the second had four steel beams with an insitu deck. The prototypes were selected as being typical of motorway overbridges. The design complied in scale to British Standard BS 5400. Loads were applied in various combinations for HA and HB testing and the models were loaded to collapse. A series of predictions were made for each model, and the instrumentation used is described, and some conclusions are presented. (TRRL)
