This paper describes a procedure for determining the optimum quantity of cement in a concrete mix when superplasticizers are used as additives. The formula proposed uses the cement density in fresh concrete as a parameter. The formula takes into account the type of aggregate used, the quality of the future hardened concrete by calculating the cement stone density, and the plasticity and workability of the concrete by obtaining a cohesion value for the fresh concrete. The influence of superplasticizer on the fresh concrete is also described. (TRRL)
