RHEOLOGICAL STUDIES ON FRESH CONCRETE USING ADMIXTURES . ADMIXTURES FOR CONCRETE: IMPROVEMENT OF PROPERTIES. PROCEEDINGS OF THE INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM HELD BY RILEM (THE INTERNATIONAL UNION OF TESTING AND RESEARCH LABORATORIES FOR MATERIALS AND STRUCTURES), BARCELONA, MAY 14-17, 1990

Since admixtures for concrete are known to improve the properties of fresh concrete and increase strength and durability of hardened concrete they are now widely used all over the world. However, rheological studies made on the influences of admixtures on fresh concrete have been comparatively scarce up till the present. This paper describes rheological analyses of the properties of fresh concretes containing admixtures. Particularly, it describes the improvement in finish of fresh concrete containing admixtures, when used to produce concrete slabs or pavements. It also presents a method of estimating plastic viscosity of fresh concrete containing a superplasticizer. A simplified method for estimating yield values is also discussed. (TRRL)
