EFFECTIVENESS OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT TREATMENTS. FIFTH NATIONAL LOCAL GOVERNMENT ENGINEERING CONFERENCE, SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, 24-29 SEPTEMBER, 1989
Many urban areas in Australia are experiencing problems associated with increased traffic intrusion into local streets. A number of treatments have been used, either in isolation or as a part of an overall local area traffic management scheme. This paper investigates a number of individual treatments as well as overall traffic management plans as to their effectiveness generally and where possible with respect to specific aims (e.g., safety, nuisance levels, etc.). Other alternatives, in particular low cost treatments/methodologies, are examined both as used in Australia and overseas. (Author/TRRL)
