THE CLAY SEGMENTAL PAVEMENT. FIFTH NATIONAL LOCAL GOVERNMENT ENGINEERING CONFERENCE, SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, 24-29 SEPTEMBER, 1989

The paper examines the sources of information available with regard to the planning, design, construction and maintenance of clay segmental pavements (CSP). It provides data for users of clay pavers who want to provide an attractive as well as a functional facility. Research programmes carried out by the RMIT Pavement Systems Research Group are mentioned and findings from some of these are presented. During the past two years the group has studied a number of CSP sites including pedestrian malls with very heavy pedestrian flows, residential streets carrying mixed traffic and shopping centre complexes where pavers have been used for various purposes. The paper presents a "state of the art" view with respect to clay segmental pavements and suggests how local authorities can gain the greatest benefit from the clay paver. (Author/TRRL)
