TELEMATICS AND THE REORGANIZATION OF CORPORATE SPACE . TELEMATICS. TRANSPORTATION AND SPATIAL DEVELOPMENT. PROCEEDINGS OF AN INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ORGANIZED UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE CENTER FOR TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING, DELFT UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, HELD IN THE NETHERLANDS, APRIL 14-15, 1988

The present period is characterized by corporate experimentation in location behaviour and in the organization of production. Telematics is actively entering into these emerging corporate strategies. The paper reviews some of the ways in which telematics is implicated in the process of corporate adaptation, within a broader explanatory framework which focuses on the nature of contemporary econonmic restructuring. The framework concerns the crisis in the regime of accumulation, which had become dominant in most advanced countries in the post war period, and the nature of the emerging responses to this crisis, which some have termed "neo-fordism". A new regime of flexible accumulation appears to be in the process of formation, and telematics constitutes a vital component in its realization. (Author/TRRL)
