DEEP WATER TESTING OF SACRIFICIAL ANODES (PART 2)

Zinc and Aluminum anodes coupled to carbon steel were tested in the North Sea at depths from 50 to 40 feet. Zn and Al-Zn-Hg anodes performed satisfactorily but Al-Zn-In anodes, while they polarize steel effectively, were not quantitatively evaluated. Ag/Al chloride half cells were inaccurate; Zn cells were satisfactory. Polarization was rapid at -0.85 V vs Ag/Ag chloride, and current output quickly dropped after polarization. /Author/
