RAILROAD CAPACITY PLANNING: A CASE STUDY OF THE BEJING-SHANGHAI RAIL CORRIDOR

An analysis of the railway line between Beijing and Shanghai was conducted on behalf of the Chinese railways. This paper describes the Chinese railways in general, the Beijing-Shanghai line in particular, and the methods for increasing the line's capacity that were identified. The study resulted in a number of operating rule and relatively non-capital intensive methods for increasing the line's capacity.
