DEVELOPMENT OF REINFORCEMENT AND REPAIR METHODS FOR RAILWAY TUNNEL

The majority of tunnels being used for JR group are pre-WWII time construction. Their time-worn structure is the problem of great concern. In addition to such structural defects, much deformation results from earth pressure acting on the structure. Furthermore, as the urban land utilization has been highly developed, there appear diversified factors to be considered in seeking an ideal way of tunnel maintenance. In the meantime, no review has been made yet on the technical standards applicable to the railway tunnel maintenance since their enforcement in 1974. This paper presents a manual compiled for the tunnel maontenance crew including newly developed technologies.
