DENSITY MEASUREMENT WITHIN A REINFORCED EARTH RETAINING WALL

This paper presents the results of a series of in-situ density teste carried out within the fill material constituting a reinforced earth retaining wall at Maryhill in Glasgow. The tests were done between December 1979 and February 1980 within a vertical section of the fill, and indicated an average dry density of 2.10 Mg/m(cubed) within moisture content of 7.7 percent. The average dry density within the 2m adjacent to the facing slabs was 2.00 Mg/m(cubed) (m.c=7.5 percent). Due to the nature of the fill material, three different methods were used to assess the density, and the results are discussed here.
