ON-STREET PARKING: THE RESIDENTS' VIEW

On-street parking in residential areas is an increasing problem. The author undertook a household survey in four contrasting residential areas of Chelmsford to obtain the residents view of the parking problems and to estimate the domestic parking provision. The residents did not appear as concerned about the problem as might have been expected. There was a high demand for parking spaces in all areas: even those with below average car ownership. Supply of off-street parking was related to the design and layout, but not necessarily to the age, of the area. (TRRL)
