Reviews Japanese supply and demand in considerable detail for LNG, LPG and methanol through 1979. Points out the lack of any projected LNG building during the period for Japanese service although major Japanese companies have technical licenses to do so. The issue is apparently whether methanol can be imported at a competitive price against other clean fuel and in a stable manner. Article notes that shipbuilders already have completed serious studies on building methanol carriers and major electric utilities have conducted tests on burning methanol as fuel.
