PAYLOAD MONITORING

This article presents a survey of existing technology for payload monitoring as well as the accuracy and the reliability of the technology of these load monitoring systems. Both practical experience and study findings have revealed major difficulties in producing accurate and reliable load indicators. At present, the only practical way of determining the weight of a load of roundwood is by fitting a weighing device to the loader. However, to develop this line further also has its problems, related to the dynamic forces present and the difficulty of checking the distribution of the load. Load cells installed between the chassis and the load-bearing members have been found to give good results. The problem here, so far as conditions in Sweden are concerned, is that of finding a method of installation to suit all vehicle types. (TRRL)
