TOTAL PRODUCTIVITY MEASUREMENT IN BUS TRANSIT: COMMENT

It is noted that total productivity is important in transit-performance analysis because there are too many other performance measures that could be used to justify desired ends. Previous work by Sumanth and Adya (1990) address a very relevant issue, but this technical note shows that there is a specification problem with their analysis that could lead to underestimation of the impact of automation on total productivity. An equation is presented that must be estmated instead of the lag equation specified by Sumanth and Adya.
