SAMPLE DISTURBANCE OF COLLAPSIBLE SOIL. DISCUSSION
This is a discussion of a paper of the above title by R.W. Day published in Vol. 116, No. 1, (January) 1989 issue of this journal. The discusser describes research on the effect of the soil sampling procedure on the void ratio values determined on the loess-loessial loam samples obtained near Odessa, in the Soviet Union. His observations indicated that when degree of saturation of soils ranged from 0.45 to 0.60, the void ratios of the sample retrieved using a 4.0-in.-diameter ring-lined samplers were less than the ones determined on the block samples recovered from the same depths by 0.10-0.20. The discussion is followed by a closure by the author.
