ULTIMATE BEHAVIORS OF TIE PLATES USED AS BRIDGE RESTRAINER

This is a report of an experimental investigation of tie plates, together with elastoplastic finite element analysis. Essential information for the design of tie plates based on the ultimate behaviors is presented. The work focuses on static behaviors. The dependence of ultimate strength and the deformation on the shape of a plate and friction between a pin and a plate are discussesd. It is noted that some tie plates are supposed to carry not only tensile load but bending or shearing load. The paper focuses on the resistant capacity of tie plates against horizontal movement and force.
