IMPROVED SYSTEM FOR THE PROTECTION OF TROLLEY WIRES IN UNDERGROUND COAL MINES

This sytem requires continuous transmission of coded radio signals from the mobile vehicles, moving on the tracks, to an antenna wire. The antenna wire will be extended over the entire length of trolley wire, protected by a particular power circuit breaker. A receiver located at the circuit breaker and connected to the antenna wire, determines the total connected horsepower operating from that section of trolley wire. The receiver will then adjust the overcurrent trip setting of that circuit breaker to an appropriate level. The mobile vehicles will also be capable of transmitting an emergency signal which causes the receiver to trip and lock out the circuit breaker.
