BUCKLING OF RESTRAINED COLUMNS WITH SHEAR DEFORMATION AND AXIAL SHORTENING

This study investigated the buckling of continuously restrained Timoshenko columns with allowances for axial shortening and shear deformation based on Engesser's assumptions. Based on the derived expression for the incremental total potential energy functional, the finite element method was employed for solution. A parametric study was also made to examine the sensitivity of the buckling load to the effects of axial shortening, shear, and restraint stiffness.
